I Ain't Get No Respect
During bike course, I have to negotiate through an obstacle called the "Mud Pool". (Think big, wet muddy pool of knee deep water.) And in the mist of it, I fell right smack in the middle of the pool. And my subordinates come and shout:
Oei!!!
Captain fall into the pool leh!!!!
Come!! Come and See!!!!
Then all the people come with their camera phones and take pictures of my disstressed state... While I have only myself to help me out of the pool.
I ain't got no respect. Sigh...
Seriously, I always have a good working relationship with my men, just that sometimes they get a bit "no big no small"... Haha.

ask them to send me the pics please:)
as an officer, it's a fine line between having a good relationship with your men, or having your men not respect you at all as an officer.
you seem to have attained the latter.
post the pix here. ;)
Bo tua bo swey!!!
FF> Heehee. I see what I can find. Apparently they din manage to get very good pictures...
OCS> Sir, I understand where you are coming from. But no worries, I am confidant of the respect my men have for me.
Miche> A bit difficult... Army stuff... Sensitive... Wahaha...
Ningx> Ya lor... I think so too. Haha.
Jayaxe> Indeed!!!! Wahaha. But quite funny...
And special thanks to Miss Slow for her response over sms.
OCS,I am 1 of his Specialists in his company. He has been there since the 1st day I joined in.
I m pretty sure you do not know him well enough. In fact, my platoon respects him a lot; as he cares for us.Its simple, isnt it...you care for your men, you earn their respect. They wont ask you for anything,be it rewards, incentives.
During the recent BRC GCC, he bought roti-prata for us instructors to Tekong. No one asked him to buy...but he was considerate enough to buy.
Once when we helped him, he insisted on treating us to dinner at the mess when we could go to the cookhouse to eat that tasteless chow...
With such an officer,we are willing to do his thing for him, without expecting rewards.
Now OCS,have you earned your men's respect?

Capt. Guojun,
As long as you feel that you have earned your men's respect, then that's good. As a fellow officer, I had read your post and felt a tinge of sadness and frustration when you mentioned that your men were 'No Big No Small' towards you.
Remember you must continue to Lead to Excel and to Overcome.
